About C-Born
We are an Australian engineering company that designs, builds, and supports precision measurement instruments for the aluminium smelting industry.
Design, Build, and Support Under One Roof
C-Born Software Systems was founded in 1986 by two engineers who met working on the control systems of the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Geelong — and the same engineers design, build, and support every C-Born product today. The company name honours the C programming language at the heart of their early operating systems and control code.
Today our focus is the Smart and Simple Anode Meters — every unit designed, manufactured, and programmed in-house in Victoria — and ongoing support for our instruments and the AutoFire system worldwide.
C-Born designs, builds, and supports everything it sells. There is no outsourced manufacturing and no third-party support desk — and our clients, some of them for over thirty years, tell us it shows.
Four Decades of Industrial Engineering
Before the meters, C-Born spent decades delivering control systems across Australian industry — the award-winning air-handling software for the Australian Animal Health Laboratory's 170 controllers, manufacturing systems for glass and battery production, high-speed data acquisition for rolling mills, and the AutoFire furnace control system that earned national engineering recognition. That breadth of hard-won experience is built into every instrument we ship.
C-Born Software Systems is founded in Geelong, Victoria — the name a nod to the C programming language behind its custom operating systems and control code.
First major project: control systems for the bake furnace at Alcoa’s Point Henry smelter — the beginning of a four-decade relationship with the aluminium industry.
The Institution of Engineers Australia recognises C-Born with a "Significant Engineering Achievement" award for the AutoFire bake furnace firing control system, later deployed at Alcoa plants on four continents.
C-Born develops its first electronic anode meters as a lightweight alternative to the analog instruments then in use.
C-Born anode meters are in service at more than ten smelters worldwide, backed by the Meter Portal and Annual Support Agreements. AutoFire remains supported at Portland Aluminium.
